It was in 1902 that St. Luke' s International Hospital was established in Akashicho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, the birthplace of Meiji Culture. Since then, under the spirit of Christian fraternity and services, which was the aim of Dr. Teusler, the founder, St. Luke' s International Hospital has taken a leadership role in the hospital world in Japan. The new hospital was opened in May 1992, inheriting this philosophy, and harmonizing with state-of-the-art medical technologies. The new hospital adopts a “single-care unit” system : almost all patient’s rooms are single patient rooms in consideration of patients’privacy.
The concept of being a “modern and patient-friendly hospital”has been introduced at every turn.At an LDR rooms, for example, pregnant women and nursing women can go into labor, deliver, and recover in one room.
While achieving advanced medical treatment, the Hospital is making thoroughgoing rationalization efforts . What constitutes the core of the rationalization efforts is the transport system “VT-SSP” for chart (medical record) search and transport. This is a system of S&S Engineering’s track system “SIMACOM VT-MC” combined with Itoki’s automated storage cabinet “Systema Single Picker,” which delivers the charts of the patients to target departments, without any human assistance. As a result, the whole process from storage of medical records to search, picking, transfer, and transport has been completely automated.
