To solve various problems caused by over concentration in Tokyo, in the area stretching over Omiya City, Yono City, and Urawa City of Saitama Prefecture, the fourteen (14) government agencies including the Kanto Regional Development Bureau, Kanto Local Finance Bureau, and Kanto Agriculture Bureau moved to the “Joint Government Building, Saitama New Urban Center.” To blaze a trail of city formation, the new government building plays various leading roles, exceeding the conventional framework of a government building, such as the promotion of environmental preservation, and a role as the wide-area disaster prevention site,in addition to the adoption of advanced construction technologies.
The joint government building is configured with two high-rise buildings as the symbol of a new urban center, namely, an inspection building, and a low-rise building for health and welfare. S&S Engineering introduced “refuse transport facilities” to one of the high-rise buildings (Building No. 2). The facilities operate on the floors from the 5th through the 26th, connected to the waste disposal room and mail distributing room on the first basement level through a circulation-type vertical conveyor, horizontal belt, and automatic reverser: the system transports, by dedicated trays,source-separated wastes (high-quality paper, medium-quality paper, magazines, and newspapers) and mail matters other than door-to-door delivery mails.
